I built this rocket for my upcoming L2 flight. Was impressed with the reviews I have read about this rocket. Last month I did a pre flights with a G80. Flew perfect with Chute release for deployment. I have a J250 I am going to stuff in it for L2. Hope to make this happen soon.
I have a Level 1 certification scheduled for January 2024, and this rocket has had great reviews for 1st timers, so I went with it. The kit arrived insanely fast, and was very fun to build. The instructions are very generic, but still helpful.
I would recommend using epoxy instead of carpenters or wood glue. I let a 5 minute epoxy set for over 10 hours, and it’s solid! I painted it the original scheme of the kit to pay homage.
All-in-all I really enjoyed taking my time with this kit. Now it’s a matter of waiting until next year to see her fly!
Back in the 90s, I built an EZI-65 and flew it on all sorts of motors, with a J-90 being the largest motor I flew in it. Retrofitted dual-deployment in a kinda funky way, but it worked.
Now, I'm building my second EZI-65 and putting a LOC 4" av-bay in it and plan on flying it on a Loki J-175 and an Eggtimer Quasar. LOVE the EZI-65!
Amazing results!
This rocket was made to fly, and fly high. Just add more weight for larger motors and a 54/38 Aeropak adapter and motor retainer as needed. Super-well built kit, and can easily handle the following Aerotech motors: H-219, I-175, J-270, and K-400. I have also heard that a friend of mine did an L flight in an EZI-65 many moons ago, so I think this could be done with some planning. My painted version was coated with metal flake and an automotive type clear coat. Not really intended as a tube reinforcement substitute for fiberglass, but it essentially amounted to something like the same I think. The clear coat was more like an adhesive after application. you'd probably be fine stock for J and K flights. I believe LOC doesnt recommend glassing for lower than Ls. But I believe LOC does recommend glassing for L flights. In their paraphrased words: "can it be done stock? yes. But you probably have a better chance for success if you do glass it for L flights."
