This kit was my first "Big Boy" rocket build. Went together nicely. Must be careful with the centering rings as they have little material left at the edges from all the motor tube holes but it is manageable. I flew it for a maiden on 5 F-15's from ESTES. What a amazing liftoff and flight!
Thanks LOC!
Everything about this kit is top notch! An easy straight forward build. I can hardly wait to light seven-29mm motors! Smoke and fire!
For what it is, this is a great kit. Definitely head over to Apogee Components and read their suggestions on motor retention and flying this thing. I used the three lengths of all thread as suggested but 1/4″ is slightly too big. 3/16″ should be fine. As the previous review suggested, put conduit for airstarts in as you are building it. I also lengthened the cargo bay on mine to make fitting the main chute for DD easier.
The LOC Ultimate was a fun build. The concise, color instructions were easy to follow, and the components fit together nicely; no fancy jigs or advanced building skills are required to enjoy this kit. The six fin design is cool and the kit includes a high quality recovery system and decal sheet. The SEVEN motor cluster makes this the perfect kit to learn all about high powered clusters. You will never get bored of this rocket! I also added some 3/8 inch brass tubing along the giant motor mount to allow an air-start option. It was easy. I just drilled holes in the centering rings and used JB Weld to secure the brass tubing. It took five minutes. I did have to trim two fins to accommodate the brass tubing. I’m super excited to learn about clustering and airstarts; that will be the challenging part. Many advanced rocketeers say friction fitting the motors is perfectly fine, but a quick trip to the hardware store for some all-thread for motor retention and brass tubing for airstarts have made this my most rewarding build ever!
