Recently built an old stock phenolic airframe 29mm version with the now obsolete piston ejection. It was a guinea pig for trying a fiberglass sleeve on airframe tubing. Finished weight was 34.1oz. swapped the 24" stock durachute for a 28" Loc due to the added weight, and had a great first flight on a G76-7g. Can't wait to push it a bit more with larger 29mm motors. The newer kit without the fiberglass added, using quantum tubing and deleted piston would definitely be closer to the 25oz advertised weight and the 24" chute should be good for soft field conditions. great flier, great price, and a really great option to bridge into level 1 cert.
The Callisto with a 38mm MMT was my first kit and is still flying over 20 years later. I am disappointed that you aren't offering a 38mm MMT option, that seems kinda lame since you still offer it for the IO. I used to recommend this for Level 1 certs (when the 38mm MMT was available) - no longer.
I built my Callisto in 2003. It's quantum tubing, piston eject and 24" nylon chute with spill hole.
I'm sure I have north of 200 flights on this rocket. I snapped the quantum tube in half flying it on a 28° F day about 15 years ago, but a coupler and some epoxy and it was good as new. I now use a JLCR with it with the original chute and set it to open at 200 ft, 100 ft. if I want to mess with the LCO a little. I get 1200 ft on a G64W, 2000 ft on a H128W, and about 3000 ft on the H180W. I always use 0.5g of black powder in the ejection charge. It's the perfect amount with the piston.
The Callisto, along with her big sister Ariel, is one of my favorite rockets in my Loc/PML fleet (I have many!). The Callisto is a sleek dart, yet has a large enough diameter to fit in electronics such as altimeters and flight trackers. Callisto is capable of using a wide variety of budget friendly motors that will take it from 500-5000'. It's a great platform for learning the ins and outs of high power rocketry, from how to assemble reusable motors, to how to install electronics in a nosecone (see Loc's Intel-cone on this website). A fantastic performer that will deliver hours of fun!
